A great and interesting aspect of TVD is that they use and base plot lines around doppelgängers. This means that the actors in the show can be tasked with playing two different characters with opposite personalities in one episode. While displaying the actor or actresses range, this makes for some great evil twin themed episodes.
Legacies is the second TVD spin off to be produced, following The Originals. This show follows the children of the TVD characters. The show takes place in Damon and Stefans house, that has now been turned into a boarding school for children with special abilities and supernatural backgrounds. The main character, Hope, is Klaus’s daughter and has werewolf and vampire abilities.
The Originals is a TVD spin off that follows the Michaelson family, AKA ‘The Originals. This group of vampires were first introduced in season 4 of TVD and have a major role in the show. These vampires are the oldest and strongest in the world, they can even mind control other normal vampires. Their spin off was very successful and ran for 5 seasons.
Because most of the main characters on the show are in High School you may be wondering, “Where are the parents??”. Actually, many of the characters parents are in the show and members of the founding families of mystic falls’ council. However, this council has a secret- they know about the vampires! Together these parents try to protect their children from vampires and conspire to cover up vampire attacks to prevent town panic.
Another testament to the shows long standing relationships and brother dynamics, the two main males of The Vampire Dairies have since started their own company called Brothers Bond Bourbon. This Bourbon Brand is based on themes from TVD and the actors’ close relationship post show. Playing off of the two actors brother relationship and the constant drinking of Bourbon that occurs throughout the show, Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore) and Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore) created the brand and can be seen actively advertising it on their socials. This business partnership warms TVD fans’ heart, knowing we watched this friendship bloom on and off screen.
Possibly the most apparent inside joke/quoted line within The Vampire Diaries Fandom comes from the first line of one of the main character Damon Salvatore, “Hello, Brother”. This line occurs in the first episode of the Vampire Diaries as Damon appears at Stefans window. For many fans, this line is iconic because it introduces Damon, one of the most loved characters in the show. This line is also sparsely repeated throughout the 8 seasons as a reference to the first moment we see Damon and tribute to some of the interesting brother dynamics within the show. This line also ends up being Damons first and last line of the entire show.
While The Vampire Daries ended in 2017, much of the cast still have relationships with the show and the other cast members. Whether for a scheduled Epiccon or a reunion dinner, fans of the show can often see the members of the show back together again! Knowing many of the cast members remain friends and still make funny references to the show on social media, fans can still get the so desperately sought after Vampire Diries content that they’ve been missing! This also has fueled a community post show that loves to follow what the actors are up to now. Although it’s terribly hard to choose, if I had to pick my favorite character from The Vampire Diaries universe, I would pick Carolne Forbes. Caroline Forbes is a main character of the show that sticks around until the last season. The reason why I love Caroline the most is because her character arc is arguably the best in the show. When first introduced as the main character’s friend, Caroline is insecure, competitive, and self-involved. Throughout the show we see her gain confidence and navigate some comical high school drama amidst all the supernatural occurrences around her. I always found it funny that someone has just been bitten by a werewolf meanwhile Caroline is worried about the school dance. By the end of the show, Caroline is quite empowered and one of the saner characters. To add, the actress of Caroline, Candince King, is super cool and has maintained a lighthearted and interesting social media presence with her fans and friends of the show.
