Honoring the women that helped build our community.
For my capstone project in Design and Visual Communication I have chosen to honor the women that have helped my community and me. Without the strong women in my life I would have not been able to achieve the things that I have today. I feel inspired to continue my work thanks to their support and the examples they have set. My goal for this project was to interact with my community to honor and shed light on the women that have come before us, paving the way with their efforts and support.
A key element of Women Built was the use of era-inspired aesthetics to visually honor the legacy and resilience of the women featured throughout the project. Drawing from vintage design styles, archival motifs, and historical visual language, I crafted a look and feel that echoed the time periods in which many of these women lived and thrived. This approach helped create a sense of nostalgia and reverence, while also connecting past and present through design. By blending these aesthetics with contemporary elements, the project bridges generations—reminding viewers that the strength of women is both timeless and ever-evolving.
